The Torah world has developed a wonderful system of Day Schools, Yeshivas, Bais Yaakovs, and other Torah institutions. Many wonderful young people are succeeding within the system. However, because there are so many types of students, as hard as we try, the reality is that one system will not - really, cannot - work for everyone. All too often, the educational choices available to our young people today are extremely limited: one type of education, take it or leave it. The lack of choices available to young people today has tragic consequences, ranging from the"off-the-derech" problem within the Orthodox world to the lack of Jewish inspiration found among many youth who externally stay observant. Klal Yisroel needs everyone's participation; we cannot afford to lose the enormous talent and potential greatness that every individual student can bring to the world simply because there are not enough choices.
For many Beit Shemesh residents, this concern strikes very close to home. A challenging situation is a call to each of as to act with both vigilance and creativity to reach a resolution. Thankfully, Beit Shemesh already has Hakshiva, our devoted teen mentoring program and youth center, replete with a capable and tireless staff. Their labor of love has clearly benefited our community. What remains, however, is a gaping void in the available educational system. With this in mind, a small group of Beit Shemesh mechanchim and rabbonim have developed a strikingly innovative boys high-school with a promising future.
Adventure. Challenge. Education. (A.C.E.)A.C.E. understands that we are at the forefront of today's changing world of chinuch and teen development. Our mission is to create an innovative educational structure that will help our teenagers thrive in all areas of their lives'. The prerequisites for this goal are confidence, trust, and determination; the tools that we use are Adventure, Challenge, and Education.
A.C.E. offers a unique and powerful program combining dynamic Limudei Kodesh and general studies with an action packed adventure program. A.C.E.'s holistic approach will develop the students' self-awareness and self-worth, provide them with clear and attainable goals, and connect them to Torah. As we help guide them through these challenging times, our students will learn to believe in themselves and appreciate their Judaism. They will discover the necessary direction and life-skills to become successful and productive adults.
The A.C.E. experience is based on a careful merger of Jewish formal, informal, and outdoor education. Our Limudei Kodesh component is central to our mission. With our dynamic classes, guest speakers, and one-on-one chavrusas our curriculum is carefully tailored to appeal to and inspire our students. Our focus is on developing a close relationship with Hashem, a love for learning, as well as an understanding of Judaism's message and mitzvos. A.C.E.'s Limudei Chol component will guide students towards completion of the GED. Additionally, our vocational activities facilitate hands-on activity while developing solid work ethics and personal responsibility. Our Chesed projects and community building will help our students feel good about themselves and the positive impact they can have on others.
A.C.E. is modeled after Wilderness Adventure Programming, one of the most successful approaches for empowering today's teens. Challenging adventures build self confidence, trust, and determination; an active outdoor environment promotes self-awareness and introspection. Students will learn to appreciate their strengths while developing close relationships with caring role models and their peers. The A.C.E. hanhala understands that self-confidence and healthy relationships are perhaps the most important elements in strengthening one's connection to Judaism. A.C.E.'s exhilarating weekly excursions will inspire students about Am Yisroel's awe-inspiring history as they discover their unique place in Klal Yisroel's continuing journey. Knowledge gained on the trips is carefully designed to complement and deepen our Limudei Kodesh program. Additionally, personalized Krav Maga training and intense daily workouts will further empower each of our participants.
